This book is authentic as its author, a master connector and storyteller in real life and on paper. Molly Lavik found an interesting cross section of high achievers to profile and a unique, engaging way of sharing those stories. Disclaimer- I am among those featured in this book, which is probably more humbling for me than for any of the true Supernovas that Lavik brings to you in one page after another of engaging, mostly first-person format.
Molly is superb and caring curator of the experiences of others, which she then turns into mentoring lessons. This book could easily be a textbook for a college course in entrepreneurialism, but it is also a fascinating read. The stories in this book are just so cool and it was a pleasure to meet a couple dozen of the people profiled, at the recent book launch. I heartily recommend this book.
This collection of over 100 bold and courageous stories of superachievement are bound to inspire you, regardless of your age, goals or destination. As a woman in her late twenties, who graduated in the midst of economic upheaval in December of 2008, I fully understand the advantages and disadvantages that face young professionals in this new economy. Career roadmaps have since been thrown to the wind and promises made by our university professors, parents and peers fell far short from reality. The truth is that we are each our own trailblazers, given the opportunity to find and create the path that best suits us, but it is a bittersweet, intimidating, and often scary trail to follow. Going Supernova is just the book to aid you on your journey. The stories in this book feature successful authors, researchers, entrepreneurs, and athletes; each of whom share personal insights into their achievements and what it took to reach their goals. Mentorship and guidance from people who have carved their own path, and have found success in many forms, is exactly the motivation I need to continue working hard to achieve my goals. I know that I can return to this book to find new inspiration again and again.
I had the pleasure of assisting the author with pulling this book together, and I think this is a very unique book that will be interesting, inspiring, and useful to a wide variety of people. I myself do not usually read many books that fall broadly into what might be considered the genres of self-help or the memoirs of successful individuals. But I loved this particular book and really enjoyed being a part of the self-publishing team that brought it to fruition. Ms. Lavik pulled together an amazing group of eclectic and impressive people with various types of compelling stories that will be of interest to people at multiple stages of their lives and careers and is on point for both individual enjoyment or for use in educational curricula. This book conveys relatively concise accounts of pivotal life experiences of the participants in their own words, with minimal guidance to touch on themes of pushing beyond comfort zones and mentoring. Otherwise, the topics covered are as varied and unique as the group of superachievers she was able to recruit to participate.
Ms. Lavik has also abstracted a useful framework of personal traits that were shared as themes emerging from these accounts, along with her extensive prior experience professional mentoring, which she has paired with an original tool kit of apps and online resources as a companion for the book. These are an incredible resource for those who come away inspired and seeking to up their game in meeting new personal and/or professional life goals. I highly recommend this as a purchase or gift for anyone facing any kind of life transition or who just wants to read some great stories about all sorts of people kicking a little ass in a very wide variety of situations and being very frank about some of the mistakes and sacrifices they made along the way.
